What is a Business Advisor?

When it comes to business, you have your pick of coaches and consultants specializing in things like finance or business planning.

A business advisor is more of a generalist, someone who is able to do a bit of everything – planning, operations, finances, marketing, onboarding, and more. Hiring a business advisor is like asking a trusted friend for advice.

Think of me as someone you can come to with any business problem you’re facing and get honest, objective, straightforward answers. My sweet spot is systems and processes, especially marketing.

How we do this:

1. Assessment

Before I do any advising, we start with a thorough assessment. All the work I do is customized to your business, so I need to know where you are now and where you want to go so that together we can get you there faster.

2. Develop a Roadmap

Once we both have a clear understanding of your current business and your goals, we’ll work together to create a plan that implements the most impactful actions with deadlines to hit those goals quickly.

3. Accountability and Automation

We will meet weekly to review your progress and determine the next actions steps. At the same time, we’ll begin looking for ways to incorporate automation to improve the efficiency of the business and your productivity, helping you get back your time and taming your task list.

4. Processes and Systems

We will either update or create a set of processes and systems for everything you do in your business to improve onboarding new team members, making the business ready for new opportunities, and preparing you to delegate the tasks you don’t like or don’t want to do, again, giving you back more of your time.

5. Delegate and Evaluate

At this point, you’ll continue the building/updating of your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and also start to delegate some of your tasks. This is a BIG project, so allow yourself a year to work through all the different things you do and document them. The easiest way to “eat an elephant” is one bite at a time; in this case, document one process at a time. Eventually you’ll have everything documented; then it’s time to try out your SOPs on your team to see if they can execute your tasks the same way you do. If not, just tweak it until they can.

If they can, congratulations! You have just turned your job back into your dream business and your time is now your own again!

Who's Sandee?

About 15 years in, I hit the ceiling of complexity. As a work-from-home homeschooling mom of three running a successful promo business, I was maxed out, stressed, and exhausted. I was doing EVERYTHING in the the business: customer service, purchasing, bookkeeping, marketing – all the things!

I never said, “No” – Instead, I said, “Yes,” and then figured out afterwards how to get it done. It was too much. My kids thought all I did was work.

Then I got Lyme disease. The 2 1/2 years I spent getting into remission taught me the importance of saying no to the things not aligned with our business goals and bringing order out of chaos. I implemented systems and processes, documenting all my tasks. I also added part-time bookkeeping help. Sales went up and stress went down.

I got my life back and became a business advisor.

Testimonials

“I love working with Sandee! There is so much information out there – I ended up wasting so much time on things that were not useful for my business. Sandee sat me down and gave me specific, actionable steps in small doses. I was able to see immediate results. I love her honest feedback and never-ending source of ideas and practical advice.”

“Thanks to Sandee, I now think of myself as a CEO, rather than just a small-business owner. Her organizing and big picture business approach are helping me empower my staff and give me the freedom to focus on business development. I’m going on an international trip in October and won’t have to worry about my business thriving without me!”
